Gods plan! (Kwetu Home of Peace)

[But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it , ‘Why did you make me like this? Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?] ~ Romans 9:20-21 The same way a lecturer has authority over the students while in his/her class is the same way a porter has total say on what to mold, how to mold or even when to mold his clay. To achieve perfection (or something close to it..hehe), the potter will come up with a plan that to him, is the master-plan. To him, this plan will get him to complete projects, will guide him to approach his work the right way and ultimately earn him profits or make someone happy. We have a master planner too, in one way or another! I love community outreach work! I'm of the opinion that each individual should seek to make a change in someone else's life, however small that change might be. The change of cou...

End of my undergrad studies

Yaaaassss!!!!! My brain's exhausted! It has been a long journey that has finally come to an end. I thank God for the far that he has brought me and couldn't need any better than this! I attend my last undergrad class today (World Civilizations II) at 5pm. God, I didn't know that you would honor me this way!  I didn't know that you would bless me this way!  I didn't know that you would take me through this journey like you have! I've always known that I have no other God but you! You have done what no man has done!  You will do what no man can do!  I'm well aware that you haven't completed your work in me. This is just but the beginning of bigger and better things. Post graduate studies is the goal and I'm sure that just as you opened door for this degree course, you will open more doors for it.

Kitenge Bracelets by Kangsy (now KWK)

It was once said that 'the job of an artist is to make a sanctuary of beauty to an ugly world'. I once thought that the word artist only referred to people who draw or paint but with time came to realize that i had gotten it all wrong. The true definition of an artist, which I think is pretty simple, is a person whose work reflects exceptional creative ability or skill. That said, I can proudly say that I'm an artist and my aim is to beautify the world. Here's why: I love African fabric; whether used on clothing, jewelry or any other ornament, it'd still blow me away. My mum used to be an extremely talented home-based tailor and people would flock our house with different fabrics that she would use to make designs of any clothing the customers preferred. Being the last born girl at the time, and probably the most trusted, she would let me manage the orders and keep track of which materials (fabric) were occasionally brought in. She would teach me how to cut, ...

Origin of the name 'Kangsy'

Hello there, I hope this lovely, calm and rather unpredictable day (weather-wise) is taking you well. This recent downpour makes me think that the El-nino people publicized earlier is about to go down! You think so too, right? Anyway, that aside, i truly hope that you're in a good place in your life right now, or at least you're trying to somehow get there. It's life, i know there are hiccups once in a while but isn't it good to brush that thought away for a moment and just be happy? Do it for you, will you? Lets talk Kangsy, i.e. how the name "Kangsy' came about. Over time, at least as I know, most nicknames that stick ( kukwama ) and are used on a person for a long time are those that were either given to them while still toddlers (read: babu, toto, mum, boi ) or were formed out of a habit that this particular person had while still young. Those you form while all grown hardly stick, unless you're creative and the sound of that name resonates...

Still I Rise....

Maya Angelou, 1928 - 2014 You may write me down in history  With your bitter, twisted lies,  You may trod me in the very dirt  But still, like dust, I’ll rise.  Does my sassiness upset you?  Why are you beset with gloom?  ‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells  Pumping in my living room.  Just like moons and like suns,  With the certainty of tides,  Just like hopes springing high,  Still I’ll rise.  Did you want to see me broken?  Bowed head and lowered eyes?  Shoulders falling down like teardrops,  Weakened by my soulful cries?  Does my haughtiness offend you?  Don’t you take it awful hard  ‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines  Diggin’ in my own backyard.  You may shoot me with your words,  You may cut me with your eyes,  You may kill me with your hatefulness,  But still, like air, I’ll rise.  Does my sexiness upset you?  Does it come as a surprise  That ...

Mentoring kids at HHFL

The idea of starting mentoring sessions at HHFL struck my mind from the day I started the second year into my course at SU. I hold the thought that there’s need for empowerment of all individuals from all walks of life. We all need motivation to thrive and be better versions of ourselves. Strathmore avails a platform where each student, right from the beginning of their respective course, are assigned a mentor. These mentors are dedicated to taking a student through each stage of their university life as they help them transition gracefully into responsible adults who will impact the society in a positive way. I’ve had more than one mentors who have helped me develop into who I am now. They share their experiences with me and make me view life in a totally different light. Mentoring ignites power in an individual; power to do better, power to move a notch higher and power to proceed from step A to step B in one’s life. Mentoring has not only helped me balance school and work, i...
