Happy Fathers day daddy (in absentia)

Now that my timeline is filled with these wonderful Fathers' Day stories/wishes, I'd also like to remember my paps with this kastoro...of one kaprecious moment we once shared many years back. We used to stay very close to Karen Blixen...yes, THEE Karen Blixen, and at that time this beautiful jungle used to host weddings almost all weekends. Now, when you saw kids from our estate in these weddings, entry could've either been through the gate (formally) or through the famous 'panya routes', the latter being the most common. The weddings were such a norm, hadi some families (mine and others included) avoided preparing lunch ama supper on Saturdays cuz sumptuous meals were available at Blixen for free; free being the key word yawa! Reminds me of how most Kenyans immediately pay extreme attention to a sales person when the word 'FREE' is mentioned somewhere...hehehe Sasa this day, kama kawaida kulikuwa na weddo. This one had free entry, so we d...

Unmerited Favour

From living in a ‘second’ home for close to a decade, going to high school (a privilege not so many get), to going to this university ya mababi ata nashangaa nilifika aje….and NOW, finally folding my sleeves for my final year – form 4 ya uni!!! How merciful can my God be??? He’s done wonders to my life. He has created paths i never thought I’d ever cross. Wakisemanga from Grass to Grace, i think they’re always referring to me. From starting off at St. Mary’s; nakumbuka ka uniform kalikuwa kemeraruka nyuma but that didn’t deter me from being top 5 in class 🙂 ; viatu zikicheka unaambiwa hakuna 5 bob ya kupeleka kwa fundi – ningojee term ikianza! Changing schools in class eight, you’d think I’m changing clothes, in pursuit of a school that would make me perform well (ndio neinde National school) – DYC apo Lenana nikaenda two weeks, the Emmanson Academy nikaenda for 3 months, surprisingly nikakuwa index 2, but i remember the headteacher moving me to index 3 because apparently she fel...

She smiles...

Sitting at her desk, she lacks much to indulge in. She's had much to do today. She hopes that the day ends quickly for her to go get a long nap, a nap because she craves for a vacation; where work related things are non-existent. She needs a rest. She looks at the clock on the wall...twenty minutes to time, time to check out for the day. She smiles. Her 'afro' is in place, neatly styled with the ankara headband she made on her own two weeks ago. She's beautiful. The silent gentle 'breeze' from the grey fan hanging across where she sits caresses her face...she's loving the fresh air. She smiles. Waiting for 'home time', she delves into the net, looking for something to take her mind off situations and negative energy she came across over the past few days...she finds this. She smiles. "Not everyone’s gonna be nice but you don’t have to be bitter yourself. As much as you want to live in a perfect world, you will always com...

Happy 22nd birthday to me!

I turned twenty two. Panic-mode bado haijafika; I'm still in that age bracket where saying my age out loud ain't a big deal. Tukifika hio time, ata FB hakutakuwa na notification ya birthday... :) As much as i would've loved to put on my dancing shoes on and dance off the day 'happily', yesterday provided no such opportunity. I had an extremely busy day but of course there are friends who made it special for me; as should be the case! It's a new year for me; a new dawn I'd call it. Why? Cuz i hope the days after today become just that; a new dawn: the first appearance of light in the sky before sunrise; the light that God's going to direct my way, I pray. I know not, what lies ahead of me.  I know not, what plans he has for me, but with faith, I'm assured that he has the best plans for me. I'm certain that my story is not just a regular story, but a masterpiece; one that will inspire others coz this author who sat down to compose it , is one...

Special people

So I kind of gave up on blogging because I’ve been so busy living life and seriously had no motivation to put anything up here. On second thought, I think ‘giving up’ isn’t the right word to use. Let’s just say my blogging-self hasn’t been alive lately…other life ‘struggles’ took priority. Happy New Year btw! (aki I just had to procrastinate this phrase – for the sake of the new year, 1 st post). Sasa sometime last year as I was going through Sauti Sols' Kukaliwa Chapati posts, I came across this wonderful comment by I’m-really-sorry-i-forgot-the-name. I read it severally and was very much intrigued at what message it passed across to me and to those who read it. Kama kawa, Ctrl+C na V ikafanya kazi…straight to my drafts! I’ve been meaning to share it but...time! Commitments!..waaah zimenikaba hapa na pale! Lakini leo nimesema lazima blog ifanyiwe justice! I didn’t quite know what title to assign the post but ‘special people…’ will do for now. Enjoy the ‘fb co...

More of you!

I'm grateful for life. God is awesome! Step by step, he's leading me towards what he has planned for me.  I fail at being consistent with him so many times, I relax at acknowledging his presence every now and then. What i know however is that: He's still blessing me. He rules my world. He's my one true love! With all my flaws, I'm forever his. Been singing  this song for weeks now. I love it. More than my love for my hair perhaps? I kid.  There's nothing i want more of, than him. The more i know him, the more i get the urge to know him even deeper. The best part of this song is this: "You make my life so beautiful And as you are you have made me here on earth There’s nothing greater than this That is why I'll love you evermore. "

Makanga

Flashback. Sunday afternoon. Kedo 2.30 pm. Mpangoless and seriously bored. Everyone’s got plans and are nowhere to be seen, I’m the only broke ‘good girl’ whose left behind to look after the house, and probably keep watch of those entering and leaving the compound. It’s mid-term, I have few days left to go back to the ‘Local Kamiti Prison‘. Exactly two days left to go back to Nembu a.k.a Nembu Gee. My uniform is already ironed and my school essentials in place, ready for ‘transport’ on Weno. Assignments all done apart from that Chemistry revision paper that we’re supposed to hand in at the reception! Aah, I still have time, lemme do it kesho morning. What do i do now? I just can’t sleep at this time of the day! Or maybe i should go back to church and spend time with akina Gatosh?..aaaaai, hapana! ‘Wataniambia niendelee kuosha zile vyombo za sunday school’. Ok, so what now? I have like Ksh.120 mbele nyuma. I had Ksh. 350 on Friday; part of the pocket money i had. I can buy ...
