WHAT IT DO BABYYYYY?

What it do babyyyyyyyyy???? 😊😊😊 In case you don't know the specific reference where that slang came from, do not panic. You're still a youngin' and life is moving on swiftly for us all same way Kahwi Leonard throws his shots when he plays for L.A Clippers. I googled that last part. I wanted to sound smart. Don't we all? There lies the hint to the slang origin though. How have you been dear reader? You wanna know something? You being here is so fascinating to me because we're currently in a season where attention is drawn mostly to pictures and only a select number of people actually click on a link to read a blogpost. Gone are the days when we'd log onto the internet to read write-ups that either don't have some alarming picture attached to it or a click-bait title that has number 6 that will leave you shocked. Your being here represents the lower percentage of humans still holding onto the beautiful world of writing and maybe of physical books still bein...

TAKING STOCK - 2021

“Knock knock?” “Who’s there?” “Taki…” “Taki who?” “Taking Stock, 2021. “ “…and may I ask who/what that is?” “…mmm….that annual post you usually put up noting stuff you’re doing now and/or those you’ve done over the year that have made it to your ‘This was Key” Book in 2021? ” “Ooh yes, you remembered!” “…’course I did. I like reading those. So how’d we do this year?” “Well, here’s something…” MAKING a list of the sales deals I managed to close & leads identified yesterday. I’m having a virtual sales catch up meeting today with my supervisor & the sales team where we each explain our weekly achievements and collective contribution to the general monthly sales target. They are not my best kind of meetings but it’s part of the process, so let’s see how it goes. I’ve had to make so many changes in the year career-wise but I’m closing it while in my field - Marketing & Sales. I’m not entirely happy with how things stand right now but I am hopeful for better come next year. EATI...

KUBEBWA MANDAZI

Has your personality ever worked against you? Like it totally refuses to come through for you when you need it to? Today has shown me some downsides of being a Sanguine. Sanguines are highly talkative, always enthusiastic, active and super social. We’re everybody’s friend, we easily stand out but also blending in isn’t hard for us. The assumption however is that ‘huwa hatukasiriki haraka’ so watu kadhaa hupenda kutubeba kimandazi mandazi. Case in point, my tailor.  We ushai bebwa mandazi? Okay, here goes something. “Hi dear ukujie nguo yako kitu 5 sitima imetusumbua sana, aki.” That there is the message I received today at 11:27am on my way to CBD, purposely heading to pick hio nguo yangu yenye sitima inafanya isiishe. I didn’t give the message much thought and decided to pass by the tailors’ stall as planned. I’d kept the fabric to myself a while longer hoping to find a dress design I would like. After my efforts to source a great design bore fruits I discussed this with my ...

MORE OF YOU

When crossing over to this year there was never a guarantee that we’d all get to this day; the first day of the last month of the year. We aren’t a special bunch really, we are simply highly favored. Many people wished to be here with us celebrating life and sharing in His goodness but things turned out different for them.   Gratitude is a Must. Maverick City guys in one of their hits say ‘I can sing a billion songs, dance ‘til my feet are numb, spin ‘til I'm empty and poor. I can't praise you enough. I can shout 'til my voice gives way, leap 'til I have no strength, lose my breath trying to explain. I can't praise you enough. And if time were to stall, I can never tell it all. Words are few, and this will have to do: I just wanna Thank You Lord.’ All the things that didn’t work out in the course of the year, the only thing God asks of you is that you believe he will change the course of things. “Everything is possible for the one who believes,” He says. While peopl...

2021 READS: BOOK 6 OF 6

There is this somewhat insulting quote by Malcom X casually thrown around that goes; 'If you want to hide something from a black/african man, put it in a book 😬.' We read it with a pinch of bitterness because it holds some truth to it. However, in this era where multiple forms of media are on our faces each waking day, I feel that the unwillingness to pick up a physical book goes down to an individual's choice. These other sources of media are still as educative as print media, so to each their own. I subscribe to all media forms at my disposal  and occasionally pick up physical books. My resolution this year with regards books was to read 6 books ( See review of the other 5 HERE ). I am thrilled to have hit my target for the year, a notable personal achievement 😊.  Here's a kienyeji review of my 6th read of the year: "My First Time by Janet Mbugua" Book cost:  KES. 1,750/- Store:  Prestige Bookshop, Mama Ngina street, CBD Nairobi. My rating (x/5):   ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐...

STELLAR GIRLS KENYA

My favorite Kenyan writer and blogger of all time (now author), Jackson Biko of Bikozulu succinctly puts it that everything is a story. He says some are beautifully told; with good beginnings and happy endings, others with sad or complicated endings. Others are told and the audience laughs, others the audience shake their head in angst. 'The reactions of the audience notwithstanding, these stories have to be told.' ~ Bikozulu. Usually when I tell my story to any audience there's one consistent major player who's part in the story cannot be missed. I point with contentment it's contribution in my life. I tell of how they took a chance on me and many others when all seemed lost and transformed our lives.  Hanne Howard Fund - Lenana  was my home for a decade+. As a young girl in their exceptional care, I learnt the power an empowered girl holds in the society. Hanne Howard ( founder ) herself, together with our program manager, Lucy being at the forefront showing us ...

2021 READS: BOOK 5 OF 6

'Character is the ability to carry out a good resolution long after the excitement of the moment has passed.' ~ Cavett Robert. Developing a reading culture is easier said than done. Passion to read comes and goes with seasons, just like it does for other hobbies. The good thing about life though is that you can pick, drop and get back to hobbies any time you like.  Three months. I haven't read anything to write about for that duration of time. The excitement to pick a book kinda went for vacation in Bali but recently came back so there's a high chance I'll meet my 6 books by end of year resolution, maybe even more than the intended target, who knows? The leg  injury  I had over this period largely contributed to my lack of morale to hop back into the reading train. I was in a very weird head space I pushed it aside for a minute. In the interest of refining this habit in attempt to make it part and parcel of my character, I used that time to regroup. My recovery...
