Pressure

It's few minutes to home time but I thought I'd vent quickly over here for a minute before I call it a day. Today's been one hail of a day. I was recently told that we're supposed to say 'hail of a day' and not 'hell of a day' so imma go with the new version starting today. I don't know how true that is but who cares? A colleague of mine accompanied me to a site in Thika today to measure some space we're meant to supply furniture for. The company is on those deep bundu sides of Thika and the trip to the site was cool. We didn't get lost since that was my second visit to that company. Now on our way back, we got to Thika town and boarded this 14-Seater Nissan and just as it was about to get full, the Nissan just starts off on it's own. The panic! The two of us were seated at the front and we were practically screaming until the tout saved the situation. That should have been a clear indication that the journey back to Nairobi was goin...

Job Hunting

“You are your own responsibility! There's no way around it. Get out there and make the world your canvas.” This phrase. I've heard more than once in my many years of living in this revolving sphere – octogenarians would laugh at my mention of 25 being many years but it sure does count for something, doesn't it? I wanted to replace the word 'living' with 'existing' but then remembered a lesson I once had in one of those campus Career Fairs where a facilitator emphasized that the youth should 'live life'. He said, “Don't just exist, live!”, “Many are existing and being comfortable while at it. Don't you want to just be different for once? You do? Then Live! Get out of your conform zone and draw your art on this wide plain canvas awarded to you!” In pursuit of living and taking responsibility, I one time opened myself up to exploring the job searching side of the world. Just after graduation, there's always this refreshing feeli...

The excitement is written all over your face baby girl and you know what, I'm damn proud of you! You've made it past the first 4 in 8-4-4 and that, my girl is an achievement you ought to toast to! Who'd have thought that with your 312 Marks from Riruta Satellite Primary School you'd get a placement in Nembu Girl's High?? Manze there have been challenges but si you're here now? Okay, so I thought I'd just halla at you and have a little chat. You're 18 now, right? Yes. I know this coz I'm you; the 7+ years older you. I want to tell you some things I'll need you to expect in some few year to go. So here we go. Maintain that small diary you have. I like that you write your experiences, both good and bad in there. Chit Chat

"So how was work today? Any good stories you wanna share with me that made it an epic day?" "Aah...twas just a normal day, nothing special happened, really." "I still want to know about it either way. Exciting, lame, relaxed...whatever it is, I'm all ears."  "Really now?? Are you always this concerned about every other person's welfare like you are with mine?"  "Yes I am. It's not just you that I deeply care about. I also care for others and ask them about their days just as I'm asking you now. So..what was it today? I want details."  "Okay, okay.... If you insist. This week has probably been the most unproductive weeks of all weeks!! But it was kinda expected, wait...can I use 'kinda' with you? Do I sound like a naive millennial? No? You're okay with it?... Where were we?  You know we had a second election, right? Yeah. The air was just filled with some kind of tension an...

I find shopping quite therapeutic! I'm quite sure even if it's with less intesity, most ladies find it quite stress-relieving too. It doesn't even have to be shopping at high-end shops like Woolworth or Mr. Price (who btw, I think overprice their stuff), just doing some thrift shopping along the streets of Nairobi is something I've embraced for as long as I can remember. Whoever came to a conclusion that ladies are impulse buyers really did do a good research, coz that's one hell of truth! The urge to buy things paraded along the streets, for me, is something I'm still battling to date. I even resorted to carrying with me exact cash (that being lunch money & fare) so as not to always fall into this whirlwind of confusion. But do I even maintain this, you ask? Hell to the no! I seldom do. I know some 'focussed' individuals, with a straight face and that lemme-advise-you look, would be quick to say “You've just got to have priorities! It's ...

Nairobbery

This is a tale of an experience once had by an extremely bubbly, beautiful african girl from the land full of milk & honey, tobacco, cassava and fish, better known as Awendo, Migori County, good neighbors with the city of raha, Kisumu. Among other great things, we boast of having the equator pass right through this mighty county, 6km North of Kisumu Central. Here you are able to stand with one foot in the Southern Hemisphere and one foot in the Nothern Hemisphere as you face the mystery of this line that separates them. I cannot, and do not even want to begin with our might Lake and luxurious islands we have in our name because you, my dear reader, will be overwhelmed with envy. Okei (insert Luopean accent here), shall we proceed?  Yes, we sure are! People from this land eat, breath, speak fish (or, at least I do). Girls from this locality and its surrounding are known for having humongous behinds, dark smooth chocolate complexion and are famous for their preference fo...

Pause

The best part about the comma in any piece of wording is that it gives the reader some time to breathe before proceeding in any pace they choose; slowed or hurried. This reminds me of those Literature or fasihi classes back in high-school where the teacher would make each person in a row read loud a paragraph or two halafu someone reads a whole paragraph without considering the punctuation!! Frustrating, right?! I mean, the story goes on, but the flow gets flawed somewhere in the middle and you lose concentration altogether. I’m that kinda girl who endeavors to learn from all experiences that I encounter in life. Bad and good, all are taken in very well, or not; pros & cons aligned side by side, lessons noted and tears probably shed too. Apart from work-outs and solo-walks in deserted areas, read quiet nature trails, among others, my other very top secret therapeutic stress-relieving method is just letting all that negative energy out through tears. Society regards crying as a ‘f...
